Perspective
InspirationsThis project took all semester long so we long process of prep and lots of inspiration for this project. We started of by earning what Perspective actually is, afterwards we started on our first assignment which was the "Unfair Project" it was based of the idea of labels. We started by writing what we thought about ourselves, inside and out. Afterwards we would write about what society labels us. This is a power statement that we accept ourselves as different and we wont let labels define us. We looked at different perspectives and analyzed how we could apply these perspectives in our writing. We learned the following 6 critical literary lenses: Psychoanalytic, Feminist, Reader Response, Marxist, Queer Theory, and Critical Race. We dissected our novel, In Cold Blood, using each of these lenses and eventually wrote a critical analysis paper focusing in on one specific lens.

Serial
On the second day of school, we learned about the story of Adnan Syed and how he may not have received a fair trial for the murder of Hae Min Lee. This was one of the most unfair trials at the tme of the case which was 1998. Told by Sarah Koenig, she uses the story of Adnan in a personal level when as she tells the murder investigation she puts her own personal opinion into the mix but not to the point where the reader is influenced to change their opinion. The American justice system could be corrupt at times it all depends on race, religion, or just background. We had a good time using this podcast as a example of pulling from the text. We used the podcast Serial to enhance our reading skills by analyzing the story as if we were analyzing the text.

In Cold Blood
This was the main literature/novel we read and analyzed this semester. We practiced how to analyze stories using critical lenses we previously learned about. While reading and finishing In Cold Blood, we were in charge of writing a critical lens essay using one of the lenses. This is the story of a murder that happened in the city of Holcomb , Kansas. A family brutality murdered as we see the town of Holcomb in fear while the book progresses and follows the life of its citizens and even the killers. The novel, by Truman Capote was one of the best literature's at his time. He was the first author to do a crime novel with certainty that the book is all non fiction and everything he wrote down was the truth. Capote uses a variety of these different lenses in his novel, but the one that stood out to me while reading was the psychoanalytic lens. I did my essay on this particular lens. I learned the deeper thought of the killer, a true psychopath. I used this reading to better understand perspective in other characters and it helps me with my writing mostly because you feel deeper connections to the characters with perspective.
Writing Process
Black out Poetry
In class we read the Poems "Let America Be America Again," and "Harlem," both by Langston Hughes. We got inspiration from these two poems to create "blackout poetry." Black out poetry is when you take a poem and black out certain words so that in the end you have a cohesive poem. While reading this poem we have a creative art design as well to go with our black out poetry. I got inspired to write about freedom and hope.
" Let him free, let America dream of love never man above. "

In Cold Blood Essay
Out of all the lenses that we learned throughout this semester I decided to write about Psychoanalysis, I decided to write about this because I've always had curiosity about psychopaths because of shows like Dexter and all the people that have died from Serial killers. So I decided to challenge myself with deep research about psychopaths. We had revision partners to help us with this essay by correcting our papers and making go more in depth in our writing. The hardest part of this project was fact checking and making sure non of the content we write about is plagiarism, at HTHI we are taught well to do good in depth research and to show us how to write good essays without all the critical mistakes. My final draft came out pretty good and I imagined it was one of my best perspective essays I have ever wrote.

Imaginative NonFiction
When starting essay we have to begin with interviewing one of our writing partners of choice. I chose Mia S, she very creative and has big topics to talk about so I know she would bring up many creative ideas. We start by having the idea of a writing 'Nugget' an idea from the interview where we could write our essays. She gave me the idea of her as a child going to her boat with her family, so I did just that. I wrote the idea of a young girl reminiscing about her dead parents with her boat, you might ask that was not her story. Your right because this project we get to use these nuggets as our own story. I mainly used this story as a narration and to bring more of a 3rd person ideal to my story. The best way we got feed back was from the writing groups. These were the group partners who edited our writing, giving us critical feedback that helped to improve our creative writing piece. These were the people we depended on for helpful feedback and edits.
My highlight of this writing project was the art that came with it. The first art piece was called kinetic art. We drew these art pieces to show our own creative art piece to our own story while the big mural is a drawing about your writing partner's story.

Kinetic Art
This is one the independent art pieces that help us explain our own creative writing piece in an artistic piece. This piece used perspective by showing one art piece with two different images and the way you look at the piece determines what perspective you see. We designed two images then put them together to create the final kinetic art piece

Mural (the rose)
This part of the project focused on the partner/person we interviewed for the nugget inspiration and we created a second art piece based on our partner's story of our own nugget. We received one block of 50 pieces of the main art piece. When all the pieces were placed together each side connected to the other paintings around them. The word perspective was cut out in block letters and pasted onto the big piece and each painting was painted over the words to pop out and create a pop out effect.

Reflection
I feel like this has been one of the longest projects I have ever been in. I feel like this was one of the projects where I put lots of effort to this project and I know that my hard work paid off. I feel like the hardest part of this project was simply getting started on my writing. I felt like I had lots of writers block during this project main because I wrote more than I was asked for during this project and i had lots of help with many of the templets Nikki showed us this year as writers. I grew from this project as a writer, my writing skills really improved this year overall having Joanne and Colleen as teachers I knew I would have lost of writing to be done and I feel like I proved I grew from my old mistakes as a writer and i'm proud to say that even Colleen feels I grew a lot being she was my 10th grade teacher as well. The only thing that I would change is more structure for the book essays, I felt like I didn't know how to start or what to write about, but other than that Junior year is finally over and i'm glad I ended it with this project.
